IPS Superintendent Lewis Ferebee provided us with an overview of the proposal to transform the educational experience at James Whitcomb Riley IPS School 43 into the Super School Model, one that focuses on kinesthetic learning and health and wellness, as well as the change to make School 43 a K-8 school. A decision was made to stop the change over to the Super School model until the school’s learning community has an opportunity to understand various models and vet those options and provide recommendations to the IPS administration and IPS School board members.
The outreach subcommittee will meet to discuss and plan for the outreach forum(s). The resource committee will also meet to identify what resources and supports can be provided to fill in gaps at School 43. Both committees will meet on the same evening, Thursday, September 8, 6 pm – 7:30 pm at Martin Luther King Community Center. The full education committee will reconvene on September 26, 6 pm – 7:30 pm at Martin Luther King Community Center. In the meantime, please feel free to share any feedback from last nights meeting. If you would like to participate on the resource committee, please email Brenda Vance Paschall at email@example.com.
